International School Award
In September 2012 the academy was awarded the prestigious International School Award from the British Council.
The International School Award recognises the work the school does to promote internationalism across the curriculum. Below are some of the activities which are contributing to the sustained focus on promoting the global dimension with the students.
International Links – We currently have links with schools in France, Germany and China. This year we are setting up a link with a Spanish school in Pamplona.
Comenius – The school is working with schools from five other countries to put together a project on environmental issues. This project, which has involved students from across the key stages, is due to be completed this summer. We already have another project in the pipeline in order to continue the collaborative working.
European Day of Languages – Every year in September the school aims to promote the use of other languages. Staff aim to deliver parts of their lessons using another language or explore the culture of another country. We have had Russian and French being used in Mathematics as well as German in Science lessons.
Victory Global Day – Last summer we began hosting Victory Global Day which is a workshop, supported by prefects and sixth form students, where year 5 and 6 students from the local primary schools spend the day in the academy. The focus of the day is developing group work in the context of a fair-trade advertising campaign. We have had excellent feedback on the day and it has been a fantastic experience for all involved.
