PSHE & Religion
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3, we follow the National Curriculum for Citizenship.
In Year 7, students will study Bullying and internet safety, World Religions, Evil and Suffering, Emotional Wellbeing, Buddhism and Relationships & Sex Education.
In Year 8, students will study Religion and Science, Equality, Healthy Lifestyles, Sikhism, Personal Finance and build up their Year 7 learning of Relationships & Sex Education.
Key Stage 4
Course Introduction: SMSC is focussed on developing students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding. Students have one hour per week to study a range of topics where they are able to develop their own opinions on issues within the modern world and consider how and why others might hold differing opinions. The course develops students’ skills in analysis, debating and team work.
Year 9 – Drugs Education, Christianity, Ethics, Being British, Peace and Conflict, Relationships and Sex Education
Year 10 – Careers, Finance, Online exploitation, Relationships and Sex Education
Year 11 – Careers, Online exploitation, Revision skills, Relationships and Sex Education
Progression and Careers: SMSC can follow onto A-Levels and university degrees. The subjects it would be beneficial to include Philosophy and Ethics, Law, Politics, Classics, History, Psychology and English. SMSC is transferable to a range of careers including: politician, historian, charity worker, careers in the army, lawyer, journalist, teacher, doctor, vet, working for large companies abroad and author.
