Work is about to start on the Victory Orchard, sited next to our organic Victory Allotment. It will be planted with traditional East Anglian fruit trees, mainly of Norfolk origin, including Costessey’s own varieties, New Costessey Seedling and Herbert Eastoe. The theme will be a sundial, with trees planted in the hourly positions. Like the Victory Allotment, it will be an organic wildlife-friendly environment, including wildlife habitats such as a wildlife pond, native hedgerow and a small meadow area. Fruitfull Schools Coordinator, Helen Banks, and RHS Education Officer, Alison Findlay, worked with Mrs Williamson to mark out the site, which has already been fenced. Seventeen Princes Trust volunteers will work with us to create the orchard with members of the Core Group of Victory students helping to plant the trees. |
