Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum
Our curriculum is exciting is exciting and innovative, providing rich learning opportunities and memorable experiences for our students.

We offer an exciting and unique curriculum that is designed to promote independence and high achievement. As students progress through the Academy their timetable will become more personalised as they choose their GCSE options and students make their important Options choices in Year 8.

We believe strongly that our 3 year Key Stage 4 supports our students with their achievement, as it gives them more time to reach their grades and build up skills and knowledge. It also makes our curriculum really flexible, as if students are ready to, they can complete some GCSE courses in Year 10. This means they can pursue other subjects that might be of interest to them. However, we only recommend this if it’s right for individual students. Only students who are really ready to do so will take exams early.

We also believe that it’s important for our students to read widely and write accurately. To support our students with this, we have an extra hour of reading and grammar skills on the timetable for our Year 7 students. Reading and literacy are also embedded in our tutor time programme. In Year 8, our curriculum is very similar, but there is extra time for ICT and History, so that students can experience these subjects more fully before making Options choices.

Our Aims:

  • To establish a rich and stimulating curriculum that is underpinned by a clear philosophy of learning.
  • To establish a curriculum that more than meets the needs of students and provides clear pathways to the best higher education institutions.
  • To establish a curriculum that contributes highly effectively to academic achievement and also supports students’ personal development.
  • To develop an effective pastoral approach, which encourages independence, whilst making the academy a place where its young people feel supported, well guided and that their personal needs are met.

Memorable Experiences
Our curriculum is also about more than just qualifications – we aim to ensure our students take a wide range of memorable experiences away with them when they leave our academy. Our extra-curricular provisions, trips and events are really important.
